Picnic and Technology Doesn't Mix?!

Jonathan

Cartoon showing an example from Enchufe's sketch

Yesterday, the Latin-American YouTube channel similar to the CollegeHumor, called Enchufe.tv [Spanish for "plug"], released a sketch video called "Picnic Familiar", or in English, "Family Picnic." In this sketch, the mommy and her family all went out to their family picnic and first, she began to unfold her picnic blanket on the grass, sets up her picnic food and a surprise inside the basket. Then, their sister and their dad were both using a radio, while her sister was using her smartphone, tweeting a friend of hers. When her sister came up to mommy, she rapidly snatched her smartphone out of her hands for a reason: because her mom didn't want anybody to be distracted to technology while it was a Sunday, because she believed that it's not a good idea to do that during family time. So she said something like this, "NO DEVICES TODAY!", and she told her it's time to leave her mobile device behind for a few moments while she prepared everyone to see a surprise. Then, same thing for her dad using a portable radio, she snatched it out of his hands and repeatedly said to her dad, "NO DEVICES TODAY!" Later, her sister used a tablet to post more stuff on the Internet, but then here comes... a WHAM! of mom's flip-flops at her face with the same message said to both her dad and her sister, "NO DEVICES TODAY!" and she was worried about her friend being chatted on instant messager during that time. Finally, after she brought her people together to the picnic blanket, she told them what they should do while visiting a family picnic and not be distracted to the digital world. She even brought them something a bit boring like a t-shirt with a picture on top, showing their family. This takes me back to my historic memory from December 24, 2013, where things didn't look as good as it seems. I was trying to get on my old Windows XP Dell Inspiron laptop, and then suddenly, uncle James came up and told me not to get on the computer. Why? Because computers and family time (especially relatives) doesn't literally mix. I even started a fight with uncle James and I began being on some serious punishment: no going out to aunt Frances, Cardarius or Doretha at all for a day because of what I did. So, the following night, aunt Frances, Doretha and Cardarius came in the house with a handful of groceries. Then, uncle James reported my behaviour to Doretha and... get ready... an argument! She told me that what I've done earlier from that day was not a good idea and that, she reminded me that I am NEVER supposed to use my laptop at their house, under any circumstance, without special permission granted to me. And that also caused me to develop a thought that digital distractions can be a overwhelming disease when your brain is tied to Facebook, Twitter, YouTube or online games, and chatting with friends. My laptop however, had a broken WiFi signal and doesn't connect to WiFi, only Ethernet. You see, each teens gets tied to the digital world, at schools, on the bus, at home or in the car, and it's getting very inevitable today. Even in China, where teens had an addiction to the Internet and video games, and they were sent over to an Internet addiction treatment center to help them free themselves from being tied to their computers, smartphones, tablets, and video games. Once a teen finds answers to prepare for a new direction to get out of the tech situation, he or she has many resources like food, that would calm that person down before anything happens later. After that, he or she would find something else to do in the real world, like playing board games, flash cards, singing a song, playing a musical instrument and more. My mind began to go dark in 2015 in late January with an aftermind of my digital disaster from couple years past until, 2017, when I began to find new ways to improve my life skills with my relatives. And that made my mind finally re-illuminate what should really happen with aunt Frances, uncle James, Doretha and Cardarius. I should have been gone with "vintage reality" where not everyone in the family (like uncle James and aunt Frances [died in 2017] )trusts each 21st century technology and should stick to the old fashioned way like back in the 20th century. But, it was taken so far! I still had to finish high school in order to graduate and that distraction from my relatives shouldn't come along with education. Nope! So, I cleared everything off my mind of "vintage reality" and went over to a skillful mind and preparing for my future like mechanical engineering, music and graphic design. And now that I've moved over to college this year, I'm still in the mind of future givings and business at Navy Pier as an Attraction Attendant. "Vintage reality" is still burned off after two years. Today, as I'm in a new age of 20, I will continue to be me, (and keep 'black screening'. Error, error), be ambitious and keep on making videos on Metropolis Center and other fun/skillful stuff, and I will be in the midst of returning back to college in January 2020 once the payments are made and placements are set.
